A megawatt-hour produced at noon and a megawatt-hour produced at midnight are not the same product. Buyers matching their electricity use around the clock increasingly want to know when their energy was produced relative to their own consumption. Manufacturers who export their products will increasingly face carbon border adjustment rules related to the energy inputs into their manufacturing processes. Generators that can show when, where, and in what year their energy was produced may earn more for their granular power in today's market.
