CleanCounts issues energy attribute certificates (EACs) for electricity generation across North America: one certificate for every megawatt-hour, carrying the attributes that give it value.
What an EAC is.
An energy attribute certificate records the attributes of one megawatt-hour of generation: the technology that produced it, where it was produced, and when, down to the hour. The electricity flows into the grid; the certificate carries the claim. Every certificate is serialized and tracked from issuance through retirement, so the claim can be made exactly once.
Technologies.
CleanCounts' Electricity Registry issues certificates for nuclear, wind, solar, hydro, biogas, biomass, geothermal, and other eligible technologies. It also tracks certain non-renewable resources under Alternative Energy Certificate (AEC) categories.
With CleanCounts’ flexible platform, certificates can also carry enhanced attributes that markets value, from pollinator-friendly and tribal-sited projects to certified low-impact hydropower.

Programs served.
State and provincial compliance programs retire certificates through CleanCounts, with program administrators holding no-cost oversight subscriptions scoped to their programs. Voluntary buyers retire certificates for Green-e Energy certified sales, green pricing programs, and corporate claims. One platform serves both, on one record.
Data you can trust.
Generation is reported by qualified reporting entities (QREs) or by generators themselves and validated under the Operating Procedures. Hourly data is validated by grid operators. Certificates move between CleanCounts and other North American registries through tracked imports and exports. CleanCounts is the only registry to allow import and export transactions to and from other registries where permitted and backed by NERC e-Tag verification.
